Tikka Masala is the national dish of the UK! Most people have eaten chicken tikka masala, but it can be made with paneer or tofu. Our recipe gives the option to make tikka masala with paneer/tofu or chicken.
While folklore is that chicken tikka masala was invented in the UK by a restauranteur whose customer wanted a sauce on his chicken tikkas - and who was the restauranteur to say no?! And so the chicken tikka masala was invented and quickly gained popularity.
Tikka masala is really a combination of a marinated and roasted protein (paneer tikka or chicken tikka) and vegetables, if desired, added to a rich tomato sauce. Add some cream and it is your familiar paneer tikka masala (or chicken tikka masala.)
Serve with a hot pita, naan, or whole wheat wrap or steamed rice. Also try with Yellow Tadka Dal- lentil soup or side (kit available). Yogurt can help cool off.

2 medium red onions
1 cup canned tomatoes, puréed
4 cloves garlic, minced
1½ tbsp. lime or lemon juice

1 inch fresh ginger (or enclosed pack)
2 tbsp. chopped cilantro (optional)
2 tbsp. cream (optional)
